Last night was... well. Last night went. The Bruins won 3-2, putting us one point behind the Canadiens and Pittsburgh in the conference.
But last night, that wasn't exactly what people were focusing on. Rather than getting into opinion and who might be right and who might be wrong, we're just going to focus on the facts here.
This game got way out of hand very early on. The refs were in no way in control of the game and they were making horrible calls or not making calls at all all game. If they had, the results may have been different. But alas, things got out of hand.

As I'm sure we all saw, early on in the first there was a legal, albeit hard, hit on Loui Eriksson from Orpik that took Loui Erikkson out of the game for good. We came to find out later that Loui Eriksson is suffering from his second concussion this season and did not travel with the team to Toronto today.
Later, Marchand was tripped and took a knee to the head from James Neal. Marchand went down the tunnel but returned to the game soon after. There is no word on if there is any injury stemming from the incident but James Neal will be having a phone conference with the NHL Department of Player Safety concerning it. This means that he will receive no more than a 5 game suspension. For those who did not see the hit, you can go here. Also, for those interested, this is what James Neal had to say about the situation.
Chris Kelly took a slash during the game also and is now suffering from a lower body injury. He also did not travel with the team today.
But the incident that took the cake last night was with Shawn Thornton. After the whistle had blown, Shawn Thornton skated over to Orpik, took him to the ground and punched him twice in the face. For those who did not see the incident you can find it here. Orpik did not get back and had to be evacuated from the ice and taken to Mass General Hospital. Thornton got a match penalty and will be having an in-person meeting with the NHL Department of Player Safety. He has been suspended until his hearing. For those interested, this is what Shawn Thornton had to say about the incident.
The last thing I'll say on this issue is that the first period of this game was atrocious and I wish for a quick recovery for all those injured in the incidents that occurred.

But on a brighter note, the Bruins did manage to pull out a win. Granted the first two periods of the game was an absolute mess because the team couldn't focus on much outside of the physical shenanigans that had gone on. Luckily, we got out stuff together, even if it was in the last two minutes.
1. Reilly Smith's Slap Shot: After a feed from Patrice Bergeron, Reilly Smith took the shot from the bottom of the circle for the first goal of the night and his 6th of the season.
2. David Krejci's Wrist Shot: When all hope seemed to have been lost, David Krejci took a pass from Lucic from behind the net and buried it through a crowd in front with 1:29 left in the third period. This was Krejci's 5th of the season.
3. Zdeno Chara's Wrist Shot: Hearing the rally cry, with 13 seconds left in the third period Chara took a pass from Reilly Smith who was in the circle and took the shot from the middle of the ice for the GWG and his 7th of the year.
Overall, this game was not as strong as many Bruins fans would have liked to see. Although the win was nice, what matters is that everyone who was injured today recovers as quickly and as easily as possible.
Until later today,
Keep Calm and Bergeron
