After a rather ridiculous loss to the Habs, the Bruins came back full force against the Oilers and former teammate turned Captain Andrew Ference with a 4-0 win last night at the Garden.
The first period started off slow for both teams with no goals on either side. But the tension was tangible that period with penalties all over the place and a fight between Thornton and Gazdic. But outside of the occasional shoving match, the first period was relatively dull.
The second period wasn't necessarily any better. We saw a power play goal from David Krejci, his 12 goal this season, early in the period off a tripping penalty on goalie Ben Scrivens. But once again, that was the only real highlight of that period.
The third period was where things finally got going for the Bruins. Dougie Hamilton started the resurgence with a wrap around goal 6 minutes into the period for his 6th of the season. This was followed by Carl Soderberg's goal 13 minutes in, counting for his 8th of the season. And to really nail the lid on the coffin, Torey Krug scored the unheard of second power play goal of the game with 4 minutes left in the period for his 12 of the season. That goal put him once again at the top of league in goals by defensemen and furthered his point lead over other rookie defensemen in consideration for the Calder.
With this win the Bruins are now 35-16-3 and are still sitting comfortably at the top of the Atlantic Division with 73 points. Our next game is Tuesday against the ever so obnoxious Canucks.

Bruins Positives
1. That Andrew Ference tribute video was classy and feel-inducing. The standing ovation was also really touching and a great way to welcome Ference home.
2. The sign reading "Andrew Ference, Boston will always be home." Adorable.
3. The downright robbery by Johnson on Hemsky's break away in the first period was magical and resulted in the second career shutout for Johnson.
4. Our ability to score four goals on a goalie who got a shutout off a record setting 59 saves the last game he played against the offensively powerful San Jose Sharks.
5. Torey Krug is slowly but steadily making his resurgence. He's first among the league's rookie defensemen with 12 goals this season and is also first among the league's rookie defensemen with 30 points. Along with this, he is also first among rookies with 18 assists. Do I smell a Calder award coming?

Bruins Negatives
1. It's not often you see a bad fight out of Shawn Thornton. But last night's was just atrocious. He literally just fell over without even getting a punch in. Blech.
2. Seeing the Oilers just totally fall apart on Ference's return is a little bit sad. You can't help but want the best for the guy and it's kind of unfortunate that the team he's on is struggling right now.
Overall, great, solid game by the Bruins and a great rebound off the loss against the Habs. Let's hope they can continue this momentum through to the game against the Canucks on Tuesday.
Until then,
Keep calm and Bergeron!
