Let me just start off by saying happy Olympics guys! It sucks a bit that we're left without NHL hockey for two weeks but if games continue to go like they did yesterday morning for Team USA, it will all be worth it.
The USA Women's Olympic hockey team completely dominated the Swiss in a fantastic 9-0 shutout that puts us 2-0 in the Olympic games. With the win, the women's team has locked down a spot in the semi finals.
Team USA set the tone early in the first period. They set an Olympic record by scoring 3 goals in 55 seconds and 5 goals in 6:22.
Before Switzerland could even blink, team USA was up 6-0 before the end of the second period and kept adding salt to the wound by notching three more goals in the third.
Monique Lamoureux, Amanda Kessel and Kendall Coyne all notched two goals a piece this game. We had 53 shots on goal overall and for a long time had more goals than Switzerland had shots on goal.
I just can't wrap my head around the idea of a team so thoroughly forgetting how to play hockey so quickly, especially when people all over the world are watching. You can't help but feel kind of bad for the poor Swiss, who are now 0-2 in the Olympics and who have yet to score a goal.
But on the other hand, the USA women's team is on a roll right now, which is going to be quite helpful when we play Canada in the semi finals tomorrow.
Until then,
Keep calm and Bergeron!
