Well, so much for having an entirely healthy team...
It was announced earlier tonight that Zdeno Chara suffered a suspected left knee ligament injury in the first period of the tilt against the Islanders and is expected to be out 4-6 weeks. After the period, he will be re-evaluated to see if he needs surgery.
Now, usually I would say nobody panic, the Bruins have depth and can find a way to make this work. But today is not a usual day.
Being completely honest, the Bruins are in a hell of a lot of trouble without Chara. The records speak for themselves: the team is 341-204-66 with Chara healthy and skating and is 8-7-5 without him. Now that might not seem like much but first consider this: the Bruins have only played 20 games without Chara since 2006. 20 GAMES. Never mind the fact that during that period we only had a 40% record. Yikes.
If that doesn't give you nightmares, here's a question that might: Who in the name of all things hockey is going to replace him? Because currently our D pairings look like this:

Seidenberg - Hamilton
McQuaid - Krug
Bartkowski - ??
McQuaid - Krug
Bartkowski - ??
Now that's ugly. Saying Bartkowski has been struggling is an understatement: the kid can't seem to figure out where he needs to be when he's on the ice and has allowed one to many goals for my liking. And I have absolutely no idea who we are going to call up to fill the void.
Hey Chia, you regretting that choice to trade Boychuk yet? Because guess what: YOU SHOULD. YOU MADE A TERRIBLE CHOICE AND YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD. Because god are we in trouble.
I don't know if we can keep calm and Bergeron right now so I guess it's,
try to breathe and pray to the hockey gods.
