Hide yo kids, hide yo milk crates because Rask is having a Tuukka Tantrum out here after a 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues in a shootout. Bruins are now 14-6-2.
But what did I tell you guys in the Bruins Blues preview? We could win as long as we stayed out of overtime/shootouts. Which, because of how evenly matched that game was, we just couldn't do.
But there isn't many negative things I can say about the game the Bruins played last night. We fought hard for the full 60 minutes, we created traffic in front of the net , we kept up constant pressure on Halak and we played some physical Bruins hockey.
So why didn't we win, you ask? It came down to which team had fancier dangles during the shootout. And alas, the Blues took the cake on that one, burying some tricky shots in the back of the net before Tuukka could blink. The Bruins on the other hand just couldn't get Halak to move enough for them to lift the puck and score. Our shootout techniques were the biggest issues in last nights game.
But even so, the Bruins came out of the game with a point and they played a game that us fans, the team and the man, the myth, the legend Bobby Orr could be proud of. I'm thoroughly convinced that our defense, which looked stellar last night, got a much needed jump just knowing the greatest defenseman to ever play the game was in the building.

But really, our defense was totally on point. They made great plays to keep the puck in the offensive zone for a ridiculous amount of time. They helped us maintain the steady pressure we needed to keep ourselves in the game.
But can we talk about Kevan Miller for a second? For his first game in the NHL, he played a solid 60 minutes. He was quick on his skates, he showed some great hockey sense and he fit right in with our style of play. Granted I'd like Seidenberg back sooner rather than later but Miller is a perfectly qualified and well chosen fit for his spot.
Our offensive was pretty stellar too. They managed to keep constant pressure on Halak with continuous shots and screenings. We were absolutely unrelenting last night and as a result we got two pretty awesome goals:
Our shoot out goal was scored by none other than Saint Patrice and although it wasn't enough to win us the game, it was still a great one to watch.
There isn't much I can criticize the Bruins on this game. Or the Blues for that matter. It was a very well played, well fought game. It came down to a flick of the wrist and really this loss isn't anything we should be worried about. We are obviously two very similar teams in teams of playing style and the fact that both teams kept up with each other all game was impressive (and made for a very entertaining game). It'll be interesting to see not only what will happen next time we play, but also to see if the Blues do indeed have playoff potential (which at this point, they do.)
Until tomorrow,
Keep Calm and Bergeron!

- Gregory Campbell: Soupy scored the first goal of the night, which also counted for his first goal of the season, in the first period from right in the front of net. It was ridiculously well placed and timed and he managed to lift it just over Halak's pads. It was a pretty fantastic goal.
- Carl Soderberg: Soderberg scored in the second off a slap shot from the top of the circle for his third goal of the season. It came after some pretty nice pressure and shots from his linemates and helped maintain the pressure we saw throughout the third period
